HAVANA CULTURA | CLUB MUSEO DEL RON, CUBA
A group exhibition as part of a residency and mentoring program for emerging Cuban artists, co-produced by Flora Fairbairn and Sachie Hernández and presented at the 11th Havana Biennial through Havana Club's Havana Cultura Visual Arts Project.
A total of six artists were selected by a jury of prestigious professionals from the Cuban art world to participate in two six-month residencies. Through this initiative, local artists benefited from residency staff and structure as well as a production budget. The resulting works included film, photography, installation, performance and sculpture, and revealed the vibrancy of Havana's thriving arts scene. The jury included Jorge Fernández, Director of the Wifredo Lam Center and the Havana Biennial; Sachie Hernández, former Director of the Centre for the Development of the Visual Arts; Lázaro Saavedra and René Francisco Rodríguez, both prominent visual artists and professors of the Higher Institute of Arts; and Roberto Cossío, specialist at the National Council for Visual Arts.
